Veteran's Day Week Update

Principal's Update

This week there is no school on Tuesday, November 7th for staff professional development and Friday, November 10th in observance of Veteran's Day.

We want to congratulate Mr. Lenny Polacco on being selected as an Outstanding Educator's Award from the University of Chicago. He was nominated by a freshman at the University for being someone that had influenced them, challenged them, or helped them along their path of intellectual growth. We always say that a Swampscott High education starts as you enter the doors here, and Lenny has proven us correct. Please take an opportunity to congratulate Lenny on this outstanding achievement!

November 14 is Parent Teacher Conference Day at SHS. Students will be dismissed at 12:30 and conference times are between 1:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00. Please check out the page on our website (click on this link) that will tell you if a teacher is using Sign Up Genius or would like to schedule via email. We have limited spots. Unlike the elementary level, teachers at SHS have over 100 students each. Therefore, we kindly encourage parents to only schedule a conference if you need to meet to discuss student issues. If your child is doing well, please leave that spot for another parent. If you need more than 10 minutes, please try to connect with the teacher via email and schedule another meeting, possibly in conjunction with the guidance counselors.

We were excited last week as Mr. Crocker's AP Physics 1 class demonstrated their trebuchet projects. See the videos below as they demonstrated their projects. great job everyone!

Sports Update:

Girls Soccer

At the 2nd minute mark: Haley Bernhardt assisted by Sydney Clark
At the 24th. minute mark: Haley Bernhardt assisted by Allison Tribendis

An excellent game was had by Kayla Kornitsky on defense who, throughout the game, made key stops and tackles.

At midfield, Grace DiGrande and Sydney Clark showed great presence.  Their commitment to winning high balls made a difference in the middle.

The night belonged to Haley Bernhardt as she proved to be unstoppable for the visiting team.  Throughout the game, her runs and ball handling ability created discomfort in the back line of Weston.

Next up the Big Blue is a trip to the north semifinals at Manning Field in Lynn on Wednesday, November 8th.  The opponent will come from the winner of Stoneham and Austin Prep.
