The Busy Season is HERE!
As we move into the busy part of the year, we will encounter many student meetings around MCAS, the course selection process, and scheduling. All of these updates can be found on our website. However, I wanted to highlight the course selection process below. It is important that parents are aware that teachers are currently recommending students for level placement for next year. We are having a meeting about this on March 29 at 7:15 for students and parents in grades 9, 10, and 11. The grade 8 parents will have a meeting at 6:30-7:15.
Finally, next week is MCAS week. This means that students in grades 9, 11, and 12, will not start classes until 11:00 on Tuesday and Wednesday and 10:30 on Thursday. This allows us to provide a quiet and well staffed exam environment. It is important that we take these tests seriously as they are a graduation requirement. Grade 10 students will be kept in the testing rooms until 10 am, unless they are still testing. Students who have finished the MCAS are free from 10:00 AM until the start of school. We recommend they return to SHS for 10:45 if they get picked up by a parent or if they walk home. The cafeteria is open for students to relax and get work done. In addition, there are computers and quiet spaces available in guidance.
