Principal's Update

Happy New Year!

January is the time of the year that our students should be preparing for midterm exams. These tests happen after Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Please see the schedule on our website. All students need to be present for all exams. Swampscott High School Website

Please also note that our Open House for Prospective New Students is happening on January 18, 2017. This evening is for all students currently in grade 8 at SMS or any private schools that are attending SHS next year or considering attending.




Sports Update:

Hockey
December 30- Boys defeat Lynn 2-0 in first game of Lynn Christmas Tournament on Tue goals by Louis Olivieri and Stevie Santanello then win the Championship game with a 1-0 win over Northaest Wed with goal by Dom Codispoti. Dan Johnson great in net for both shutouts with 25 and 14 saves. Blue improve to 4-1 on the season

Monday January 3
3-1W over Brookline goals form Louis Olivieri,Zach Elwell & Stevie Santanello, David Peterson 2 assists along with Jack Poska, Conor Donovan and Emery Wollerscheid. Victor Kratik has 14 saves in his first start in goal.

Wednesday January 5
2-0 W over Peabody Louis Olivieri 1g 1a, Andrew Dove 1g, and Jack Poska had 1 assist. Dan Johnson 24 saves for his 3rd straight shutout. Blue now 6-1 on season

Girls Hockey

The co-op girls hockey team was able to get their first & second wins of the season over the winter break.  The team beat Bishop Fenwick 6-1, with forward Syd Cresta tallying a hat trick and an assist.  Next, they traveled to Gardner to play Leominster and took home a 4-0 win. Again Cresta led the team with a goal and an assist.  Goalie Sarah Ryan faced 10 shots in the shut out.  Wednesday night’s home game against Medford ended in a disappointing 3-2 loss. Our Big Blue girls, however, scored both goals. Cresta at the very beginning of the 3rd period and defenseman Caroline Kinne at the end.  The team hosts Leominster on Saturday night and Oakmont on Sunday morning. Both upcoming games will be played at Salem State.

Girls basketball

Results from the Boverini Christmas Tournament held at Lynn English.

Round 1: Swampscott 44, Lynn English 32. Great defensive effort to help secure the win. Hannah Leahy had 14 points, Jaymie Caponigro chipped in 10 points. Nikki Rosa held Lynn English's top scorer to just 8 points in a strong defensive effort.

Championship: Swampscott 28, St. Mary's 57. Tough loss to a very talented team. Big Blue girls never quit and fought hard in the effort. Ella Parker had 10 points, Nikki Rosa had 9 points in the game.

Girls fell to Marblehead Tuesday night, 35-30. Jaymie Caponigro and Hannah Leahy led the effort with 11 points a piece. Record move to 4-3 on the season.

Swampscott Boys Indoor Track

We were well represented at the 2016 NEC Freshman-Sophomore Meet. Sophomore Joe Varghese completed the day with a 1st place finish in the 50 yd HH (7.8 secs) and a second place finish in the high jump (5’5”). Sophomore Nicolas Flint also took home 1st place in the shot put (38’ 5 1/2”) which is his season’s best throw. Sophomore Harrison Katz finished 4th in the 2 mile, Jack Leahy placed 5th in the 50 yd HH, Ethan Runstadler placed 6th in the shot put and the 4x400m relay team placed 3rd (Malik Khatib, Jacob Culliton, Connor Lynch and Kyle Lenihan) with a time of 4:13.9. Their next meet will be in Swampscott on Monday 1/9/17 @4pm vs. Salem.

Boys Basketball

In a 73-31 loss at Marblehead junior guard Jake McIntire came off the bench to lead the Big Blue with 11 points.

Ski Team
- Boys and girls ski teams had two practice days this week.
- They are getting ready for their first week of racing next week.
